We had time to get out and about during the Christmas break to blow away the cobwebs and were “blown away” by the spectacular Coldstones Cut, just west of Pateley Bridge.  This massive sculpture commissioned by Hanson Aggregates and Nidderdale Visual Arts allows visitors to freely walk through and explore and array of platforms to view the Coldstones Quarry and the stunning surrounding Nidderdale scenery.  It is Yorkshire’s biggest and highest public artwork and is truly awesome !

Restaurants in Harrogate

We are really lucky in Harrogate to have so many fine eating establishments within the town and surrounding area, so we thought we’d share a few of our favourite restaurants.  Within Harrogate town there are a diverse range of restuarants on offer, it’s certainly worth booking in advance as these restaurants are very popular although the good ones are usually booked up, so we’ve included their telephone numbers. Sasso’s is a great Italian restaurant located in the picturesque Princes Square, the pasta is highly acclaimed and we are great fans of the DIY brushetta to share! It’s popular to reservations as recommended call  01423 508838.

Harrogate Town Centre is also well served for oriental cuisine with the highly rated Royal Bath’s Chinese and The Orchid Thai Restaurant.  The Royal Bath’s is a stunning dining experience in the newly refurbished building, the owners have spent £1.5million on the interior alone - it really is a grand experience! They also have private dining available – if you are travelling with a group of friends or business collegues – call 01423 536888

The Orchid – Is a real favourite with superb “Pacific Rim” food, again conviently located near the Conference Centre on  Swan Road, the “Weeping Tiger” -  Chargrilled sizzling sliced sirloin served rare with Thai lemongrass & bird’s eye chilli dip -is delicious! The service is fabulous too! 01423 560425 for reservations.

If you are staying in or around Knaresborough or are happy to drive ten minutes from Harrogate town centre, The General Tarleton, Ferrensby is a superb fine dining pub – it’s focus is very much on locally sourced, high quality ingredients, John Topham the chef patron is passionate about seasonal food cooked well!
